Cook Islands Resort Listings ; Cook Islands Accommodation Guide

All tourists arrive on Rarotonga, the largest and most populated of the 15 islands that constitute the Cook Islands. This is where 90% of accommodation. The only other island commonly visited is Aitutaki Lagoon and to a lesser extent Atiu which has eco-tourism appeal.

Rarotonga Resorts

Please select a Cook Island accommodation name in the map of Rarotonga below for more details, hotel rates, pictures and booking facility:

The most popular beach destination on Rarotonga is at Muri Beach on the South East Coast. Muri has a lovely lagoon for swimming, a sailing club and bar, independent restaurants, water activities, several uninhabited offshore islands and plenty of accommodation.

The South Coast is quieter and more private with good stretches of swimming beaches and the best snorkelling lagoons on Rarotonga. Here there are several small intimate motels, beach bungalows and holiday homes and all day sun.

There's another concentration of accommodation around the leeward and generally sunnier West Coast. Here the beach stretches unbroken for several miles along the coast and makes an excellent place for strolling. However, parts of the lagoon are so shallow that at low tide there is no place to swim. There's a good selection of small independent restaurants along the coastal road making it a popular choice for those who enjoy dining out.

If you want to be close to Avarua Town, along the North Coast, and its restaurants, shops, bars and nightlife, there are several backpacker hostels in the hills and a few budget motels / inns closer to town and along the shorefront. Avarua and the coast to the east is quite rugged with mostly pebble beaches and the crashing reef nearby making it not so good for swimming.

Aitutaki Resorts

Please select a Cook Island accommodation name in the map of Aitutaki below for more details, hotel rates, pictures and booking facility:

The exquisite lagoon island of Aitutaki, 45 minutes flight to the north of Rarotonga, offers a handful of places to stay, from some of the most luxurious resorts to simple budget beach bungalows and backpacker lodges. On the uninhabited islands surrounding Aitutaki Lagoon you'll find some of the best beaches and swimming lagoons in the South Pacific but unfortunately few places to stay - visiting these islands is a popular as a day cruise activity, and it is possible to visit also on a day excursion from Rarotonga.

Outer Island Resorts

Outside of Rarotonga and Aitutaki, places to stay are limited to a few budget guesthouses and self catering villas on Atiu, Mangaia and Mauke Islands all to the east of Rarotonga. The remote Northern Group of Atolls has guesthouse only.
